“If you believe that fortune is always built on fraud, you’ll resist the mindset that creates it—and that belief will keep you broke.”
– Ayesha Butt
This quote highlights a pervasive psychological barrier that prevents many people from realising their full financial potential: the misconception that wealth and integrity are mutually exclusive. In environments where corruption is prevalent or the wealth gap is significant, it’s easy—and even comforting—to think that anyone who becomes wealthy must have engaged in unethical behaviour. However, this mindset, while understandable, is deeply limiting.
When you view all wealthy individuals with suspicion, you create a subconscious barrier between yourself and success. Why would you aspire to become something you secretly despise? If you equate money with greed, dishonesty, or exploitation, your mind will subconsciously devise ways to avoid becoming wealthy, even if you claim to desire it. You may self-sabotage opportunities, shy away from ambitious goals, or remain in your comfort zone because, deep down, you believe that genuine success requires moral compromise.
Consider the impact of growing up hearing phrases like:
– “No one buys a Mercedes or a plane with clean money.”
– “It is incredibly challenging to earn halal money.”
Even if these beliefs are never explicitly stated, they can seep into your subconscious. Later on, when you see someone living in a beautiful home or driving a luxury car, your internal dialogue may kick in: “He must have done something wrong.” This mindset creates a divide, leading you to avoid aspiring to similar achievements.
Many people often attribute their failures to external circumstances, luck, or other individuals. This mindset is often subconscious, and to achieve true success, it is essential to rewire your thinking. Reflect on what actually went wrong and consider how to correct it. It’s crucial to remember that negative words and thoughts are harmful not only to others but also to yourself, as they fill your mind with negativity and attract adverse energy.
Reframing the Narrative
To change your financial future, you must shift your perspective on wealth:
1. Positive Assumptions
If you must assume, make your assumptions positive, such as:
- “It’s easy to make halal money; I just need to think positively and put in my full effort.”
- “I am born to be a billionaire.”
2. Role Models
Seek out role models who exemplify integrity and prosperity. They do exist, and their stories can transform your mindset.
3. Take Responsibility
Wherever you are in life and whatever you are going through, only you are responsible, and only you can take action to change it.
4. Change Your Company
Your income cannot exceed the average income of the people you interact with and share your thoughts with daily. If you want to improve your income and mindset, consider changing your company and surrounding yourself with progressive individuals.
Understand that money is merely a tool. Like any tool, its impact depends on how you use it; it can build hospitals and schools or fund weapons. Ultimately, its value lies in the hands of the user.
